Net to gross
Multiply the net amount by the rate to get the VAT, then add the two.
VAT = net × rate · Gross = net + VAT
Example: 100.00 net at 19% → VAT 100 × 0.19 = 19.00 → gross 119.00.
Convert net amounts to gross amounts or gross amounts to net amounts directly in your browser.
Enter a net or gross amount and choose a VAT rate. The calculator shows the net amount, the VAT amount and the gross amount together, so the result is easy to check.
The 19% and 7% presets are the German standard and reduced VAT rates. For any other rate, choose Custom.
Multiply the net amount by the rate to get the VAT, then add the two.
VAT = net × rate · Gross = net + VAT
Example: 100.00 net at 19% → VAT 100 × 0.19 = 19.00 → gross 119.00.
The gross amount already contains the VAT, so divide it by 1 plus the rate.
Net = gross ÷ (1 + rate) · VAT = gross − net
Example: 119.00 gross at 19% → net 119 ÷ 1.19 = 100.00 → VAT 119.00 − 100.00 = 19.00.
Net is the amount before VAT. Gross is the amount including VAT.
The percentage was originally applied to the smaller net amount. To recover net from gross, divide the gross amount by one plus the rate expressed as a decimal.
